Don't they license produce the UH-60 Blackhawk? We could get it cheaper from them, the US has alot of it so maintenance and support will not be a problem. Well, this is good after we have a stronger economy and if funding permits.

Parang mas maganda pa MG 530F, we are use to the MG 520, maintaining them will not be a big difference.

Cant we just get their AMV Patria, it looks cool and will be of great use for the PA. Since we got a credit line we might use it for other equipments.

If Poland is indeed offering a good deal regarding the line of credit perhaps the PAF should package a deal for Sokol + PCL-130TC Orlik trainer/light attack.

does this means Bells Cobra (AH Series) is already out of the picture........or they will open the bidding to any prospective supplier again..........
i think the Cobra is still the most feasible dedicated attack(day and night) chopper for the PAF: maintenance, training wise we can already leverage the current PAF skills.....this platform is also a stepping stone to missile tech (hellfires, sidewiders).......

DND: Attack chopper deal could be scrapped if rigging proved

MANILA, Philippines -- The winning bid of an American firm to supply the military with six night-capable attack helicopters worth $29 million could be scrapped, if an investigation determines the bidding was rigged, a spokesman for Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said.

Teodoro tasked Defense Undersecretary Ariston Delos Reyes to investigate the bidding after a losing bidder, Poland's PDL Swidnik S.A., complained the bidding "favored" Asian Aerospace Corp., the local partner of Boeing Co.'s McDonnell Douglas, Teodoro's head executive assistant, lawyer Nelson Victorino, said.

"It's more of a fact-finding investigation, a committee that will look into all available documents and get sworn statements…to assist him in making a decision on whether [or not] to scrap this project altogether," Victorino told reporters in Camp Aguinaldo.

"Secretary Teodoro really wants transparency, regularity, and fairness in all these bidding processes," he added.

If scrapped, Victorino said the delivery of the MG-530F helicopters would be delayed for three months. The first batch of deliveries would have started this month, and the delivery period covers 12 months.

"The modernization program is moving forward, of course this will be a setback but only temporary," the spokesman said.

Depending on the outcome of the initial inquiry, Victorino said a separate investigation of the defense department’s bids and awards committee, which oversaw the bidding, could be launched.

He said the contract has not been awarded to Asian Aerospace since it has yet to past "post-qualifying" tests. A team was sent to the US to test fly the MG-530F but no units were available. Instead, the team flew an MG-520, a similar aircraft with a relatively weaker engine.

The BAC disqualified PDL Swidnik from bidding for the contract for failure to submit certain documents. A third bidder, Italy's Augusta, also lost out to Asian Aerospace, Victorino said.

The Polish firm wrote to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Teodoro alleging the MG-530F choppers were overpriced and could not meet the 3,000-pound payload requirement set by the BAC, Teodoro’s spokesman said.

But in the test flight of the MG-520, which is currently in the AFP arsenal, the pilots concluded by "inference" that it could withstand the required payload, since the unit they planned to purchase would run on a stronger engine, Victorino said.

they're looking into the possibility that the bidding was rigged?

is the climate of corruption in the upper echelons of the afp that endemic?

who are these high ranking officers of the afp incharge of the bidding?

why do the dnd and the afp allow such things TO CONTINUE TO HAPPEN  unabated?

i'd like to see an officer court martialed and convicted just for taking a ream of copying paper.

uncompromised discipline, moral integrity, and honor must begin in the officer corps!

Even lockheed involved in the scandal in the process of negotiating the sale of aircraft including the F-104 Starfighter, the so-called "Deal of the Century.

What i mean is they should include also MD or Asian aerospace for investigation . two pisols

that is one thing they should do.

it would be interesting to know whose palms at the dnd that the asian aerospace was greasing or as they call it - "giving commission" to.

So this means DELAY na naman itong project na ito ... and yet they want to reduce the communist by 30% ba yun by 2008 ... well there are plenty of ways and means ... not only by means of 6 attack helicopters but surely this hardwares can surely help and probably will save more lives to our ground troops ...

Pero sa totoo lang bakit ang feeling ko hirap talagang maniwala ng walang corruption in any acquitition order sa AFP ...  eyes

The brighter side is korea, Malaysia,  are once a corruption rampant country maybe we can follow  or adapt the way they get rid of corrupt officials. thumbs up

That  is the negative side of bidding process , bribery …..if  only they have to exempt for this type of acquisition instead  they go directly to the manufacturer ….. anyway halata naman  na AH-1 cobra ung papasa sa description…
