Hi,

FYI, just saw this morning a KM450 light utility vehicle in PHIL. MARINE camo scheme...anybody can say if this is part of the 600++ vehicles just recently acquired or has the Marines through the Navy acquired a separate order..also I've seen one in Air Force blue but I am not sure if it's the Kia manufactured version or the old U.S. ones. smoke

I believe those were the issued KM450 and were painted the blue colors probably for base and admin duties. Some of them still sport the original Korean camou scheme.

Are you sure about this? PMAR is not included in the distribution list. Only PA and PAF

I don't know which thread I had posted this mid of last year... but here's the pic again...

But I don't think they are the 'new' KIA KM450, but more like the older M715s?...

The photo show Amercian made M715's. not Kia KM450's.  These are even better since they come with the cummins 6 cylinder diesel engine.

COMMENTS FROM A TIMAWA FRIEND...

{translated from vernacular}
That's Korean. How could you tell? Take a look at the turn signal. The amber part is large unlike the original Jeep Kaiser which sported the WWII uniform US military front black out lamp with turn signal. Grille design is also different.

Secondly, corners are rounded unlike the squarish original.

Thirdly, we never got any Jeep Kaiser as EDA or as base rental purchase. Not even one. The only operators of the original Jeep Kaiser in the Philippines were the USAF 13th Air Force.

And the total give away and the 4th, Kaiser had long bankrupt, so how can we get any unit from them.  They were absorbed by Jeep that's why it becamed Jeep Kaiser.  Jeep Kaiser name tag was also dropped and had since became Chrysler-Jeep after the acquisition.

Incidentally, did you know that the M-715 was the first attempt of the US Military to adopt a civilian design vehicle into its system?  This is very true.  There was then a bidding and competition on who could provide an off-the-shelf 4x4 to the US Military. Kaiser beat everyone with their pick-up that was rugged and 4x4. With very little minor modification, their pick-up became military-type.  Among the modification were the soft top and change of turn signal and tail light to military spec. Dash board was removed.  Pioneer tools were added and jerry tank and carrier were added besides additional compartments to the sides of the cargo box.

To Kalashnikov>  Original M-715 were straight six and there was NO diesel version!

As simple correction would have sufficed. looks like somebody drank to much coffee this morning  eyes . Anyways, thanks for the correction if i made a mistake! my bad. beer

I wasn't talking about the Kaiser M715, but the CMS M715 D/E which looks more similar to the KM450 with a Straight six cylinder cummins diesel engine. Can you confirm if we have these? I even looked under the hood and it was definitely a cummins 6 similar to trucks we had. I believe the recent deliveries of KM450 the AFP received had wider radial tires very much similar to the US HMMWV.

Not a specialist in vehicle identification, but it looked "new" and it looked like a KM450 which I've seen quite a few times.

Of course you Sir would know if the Marines got some.. beer

Personally -- I'm not a truck expert -- but I'm just basing my question on that the PMC trucks has split windshield rather than the singular ones of the Army.  Also front bushguard and 'tarp' support are absent, though these are/can be easily removed on the field.

Maybe Sir ML (or Sir Maverick) can dig into these... or Sir MBLT6 can clarify...

Sir ML is correct that PMAR is not included in the distribution list of KM 450.

As with the CMS M715, we do received a number of them from the US. Was given together with the M24 sniper rifles. DOn't know how many was given though. Was able to ride on one sometime in 2002.

Before some of you start killing each other, I did remember that the Koreans donated a lot of vehicles, so thought the Marines might not be part of the "New" KM450, they might have already gotten a few samples as donations from the ROK.

Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

it's easy to determine if it's KM450. It should have a "KIA MOTORS" mark on the tail gate...

I'm not into trucks. I don't know much about trucks. But   around July last year I saw a brand new Korean (that much I'm sure) truck parked in front of their Taguig office, looking much like what is pictured here.

When I didn't see it the next week  they told me it was shipped out to Basilan.
