Bitung, North Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Indonesian warship KRI Makassar-590 has left for Mindanao, the Philippines with 2,000 tons of rice for the victims of typhoon Bopha that swept through the southern Philippine area on December 4, 2012.

Speaking after dispatching the ship from Bitung port on Friday, North Sulawesi Governor Sinyo H Sarudajang said the humanitarian aid from Indonesia was expected to be useful for the disaster-affected Filipinos.

PRESS ADVISORY NR 0113-002 DATE: 11 January 2013

DETAILS:
The Republic of Indonesia will donate 2,000 tons of rice, blankets, and tents as humanitarian assistance to the victims of Typhoon “PABLO” in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental. The relief goods will be transported from Bitung, Indonesia to Davao City via Indonesian Navy Ship KRI Makassar-590.

The vessel will depart from Port of Bitung on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 12 o’clock N.N. and is expected to arrive at Sasa Wharf, Davao City on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 5 o’clock P.M. The Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao will accord appropriate arrival honors to KRI Makassar -590 at Sasa Wharf, Davao City.

Furthermore, Hand-over Ceremony of relief goods to DSWD personnel will immediately follow aboard KRI Malassar-590. Friends from media are invited to cover the said event.

Sir, they call those MRVs, or Multi role vessel, or an LPD. MOSTLY used for troop and military hardware transport. Also they say as a command and control plat form. Its also a helicopter carrier and landing plat form. An awesome ship which the Phil Navy has been eyeing on getting. Minimal defensive armaments, not really an assault vessel.

Thank you Indonesia for the help! We could use a couple of those beautiful ships of yours!
