Civilian support for, and cooperation with, the PA made a huge difference in Juban,
a municipality along the southern shore of Sorsogon Bay. A platoon from 31st IB
(9ID PA), plus agents of the military intelligence company, took out an NPA camp
held by over 20 rebels. There were no Army or civilian casualties in the assault,
which left at least 8 NPA criminals dead and several more wounded. Multiple M-16
rifles with M203 grenade launchers were recovered, along with at least one IED.

Last February, 31st IB destroyed an NPA training and indoctrination camp, hastily
abandoned by the terrorists just hours before our troops got there, in Magallanes
municipality, immediately west of Juban, along Sorsogon Bay.

Good job 31st IB! It's beautiful when an op comes together as smoothly as this one.

Ah, that picture above alone says A LOT about how the op will impact the NPA unit in the area. And some details of how the Army pulled it off perfectly.
Been there, tried it, got a mug.

Is 31st IB assigned before in Compostella Valley? Are they composed of Rangers?

IIRC, 31st IB has been Bicol/Quezon-based since the 80's.

Rangers? I believe 1FSRR are under PASOC.

The 31st Infantry Bn however, are under 9th Infantry Div.

Yup, seems that for three dudes, they were clearly holding rifles (one even in rambo style) when rigor mortis kicked in.

It takes 12 hours for the body to use up its stores of ATP, locking the muscles. Highly doubtful that they were left out there that long but so much for Physiology and Legal Medicine.

Myosin levels may maxout in 12 hours, but rigor mortis starts to set in within 4
hours, in temperate climes. High ambient temperatures can accelerate the
process. I'm not suggesting rigor caloris: I'm pointing out tropical conditions.

The encounter started at 6am, and the terrorists could have been killed very
early on, in an encounter that might have been brief. Securing the area for
postop assessment would have followed before the photo was taken, and
you can see the sun seems already very high, based on the shadows cast.

Communist rebels vow revenge for slain NPA spokesman
By: Agence France-Presse
July 6, 2013 6:18 PM

The online news portal of TV5

MANILA -- Communist insurgents Saturday promised revenge after Philippine soldiers killed their regional spokesmen along with seven other rebels in the latest operation against the militants since talks to end one of Asia's longest running insurgencies collapsed.

The Communist Party of the Philippines confirmed that one of the eight rebels killed in the clash in the eastern province of Sorsogon on Thursday was Greg Banares, guerrilla spokesman for the rebel-infested Bicol peninsula.

Along with Banares, whose real name was given as Frankie Joe Soriano, other members of his information group and their security detail were killed in the incident, the rebels said in a statement sent to news agencies.

"The CPP and all revolutionary forces vow to exact justice and punish the perpetrators of this massacre. It calls on all units of the NPA (New People's Army) to carry out more tactical offensives... in Sorsogon and the Bicol region," it added.

True. Heat speeds up chemical reactions and in this climate, the process tends to be faster.

Given all these recent encounters and hostile rhetoric from the Reds, would the AFP consider taking more deliberate action in flushing them out? Because all we've seen are more of a local rwsponse coming from the field units.
